About The Library

Kalimpong College is situated at the heart of the town of Kalimpong District of West Bengal. It was established in the year 1962. The College Library was founded in the year 1962 with the establishment of Kalimpong College within the college building. The new separate building was completed in the year 2015 on the auspicious occasion of the Golden Jubilee year of the college. The foundation stone of the new Golden Jubilee Library Building was laid on 13.03.2012 by Shri Bratya Basu, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal, and inaugurated on 26.06.2015 by Dr. T.B Subba, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Sikkim Central University.
The new building has been functioning for the last eight years. Since its inception in the new building, students, teachers and other public members have access to a lending library and the reference library of Kalimpong College. This college has more than 1600 enrollment of students and the Library is proposed to serve all the students of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management students of this college.
At the library,all books are barcoded and arranged by Call Number. In book classification the library follows Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) method. In addition, the library is a bonafide member of INFLIBNET N-LIST project. Through INFLIBNET N-LIST project the library can access more than 32,00,000 volumes of E-books and more than 6000 E-journals with back issues. The library also subscribes two daily newspapers and two employment related weekly newspapers. Multiple OER Repositories Links are accessible and available through the library WEBOPAC. The users can access important repositories by simply clicking on the links even from home. The users are also guided to obtain relevant results from the global Directory of Open Access Repositories like Open DOAR. In addition, the users, especially students are encouraged to make use of the resources of National Digital Library. The library offers computer facilities with high-speed internet connection.
The functions and services of the library are partly automated. Web-based open access cataloguing services (WEBOPAC) are in operation. The library also boasts of reprographic service to users and particularly to the students.
The library uses KOHA 21.05.08 integrated library management system. The users search their documents through OPAC. All the documents of the library have been entered in KOHA and this goes a long way towards a complete automation of the platform.
