About The Physics Department

In the year 2004, the academic session for B.Sc. (General) Physics Course under 1+1+1 system was introduced in Kalimpong College. At that time it was a long-standing demand of Kalimpong locality for pure science graduates who may serve as pure science teachers in primary and secondary schools. To fulfil such rationale demand both Physics and Mathematics departments were started from 1st July, 2004 with 13 students and it may be worth mentioning that Chemistry department was already continuing at that time. The Physics Department started its glorious journey with one permanent faculty Dr. A. K. Ghorai and one Laboratory attendant Mr. Yohan Lepcha. On July 2008, Ms Richa Tamang was appointed as Part-time teacher in the department and she resigned on March 2010. Later on Ms Tamanna Subba worked in the department as Part-time teacher for a short period from June 2013 to November 2013. From 2018-19 academic session CBCS system was introduced in North Bengal University and since then all academic activities of the department are followed according to the system. On August 2018, Ms Puja Pradhan was appointed as Part-time faculty and she is now serving the department as SACT. Lastly, on December 2020, Mr Prosenjit Biswas joined in the vacant permanent teaching post of the department.
